Aligning goals of homeowner,

architect, designer and builder

The architects designed the home with a curved footprint and extensive glazing to optimize panoramic views. The flowing, organic curves enhance the aesthetic and draw the eye to natural surroundings.

“This was a project almost five years in the making,” said Chris McClary, Operations Manager of ElPro Elevators and Lifts, Inc., a Calgary-based Savaria dealer with 30 years of collective experience in the elevator installation and repair industry.

ElPro collaborated closely with the architect, builder, and interior designer throughout the project, enabling both careful planning and on-the-fly adjustments for optimal results.

“Working with Savaria, we crafted a bespoke Vuelift that exceeded every expectation.”

Centerpiece:
The Savaria Vuelift^® Round+ Glass Elevator

The Savaria Vuelift serves as a functional and design centerpiece. Positioned within a chrome-accented spiral staircase, it travels nearly 25 feet, offering uninterrupted views. Its location beneath a 16-foot-wide skylight maximizes emphasis on natural light—a hallmark of sustainable, energy-efficient architecture that enhances well-being.

Chosen for its aesthetic appeal, floorplan flexibility, and alignment with the design concept, its customizable size, shape, and configuration adapted seamlessly to the layout. Local support from ElPro ensured expertise for unique installation challenges.

Collaboration

The home’s elevator was custom-designed by Savaria and ElPro, integrating it with the skylight. The Vuelift’s modular design enabled adjustments to fit the home’s evolving structure, including potential future expansions.

“They raised the skylight height mid-project and are considering adding another 10 feet to create a glass vestibule for the Vuelift, opening to a rooftop garden,” says McClary. “The modular system provided flexibility for the first extension, and I’m confident it can handle a second if needed!”

Customization

This installation is more than a conversation starter. The panoramic glass Vuelift, skylight, and chrome-accented staircase serve a key design purpose—flooding natural light throughout all three floors. The light reflects and refracts through the Vuelift and chrome, reaching various parts of the home’s interior.

Key Installation Phases

Pre-Installation
A four-inch pit was prepared, then the custom silver-colored steel frame was installed during initial construction.

Frame Completion
Wires were routed through the frame, connecting to a top-mounted control system.

Final Assembly
The team returned to install the Vuelift’s glass panels after construction, building temporary scaffolding to complete the top sections.

Early collaboration with the design team and builders allowed ElPro to make real-time adjustments, preserving the architectural vision while addressing the challenges of a complex installation.
